Where are you living?

I live in Berlin and on the countryside in Brandenburg.

How old you are? (if you don’t mind answering)

Unfortunately, I will soon turn 50 – incredible.

What inspires you?

Inspiring me: my next surrounding environment, movements, attitudes, light, shadow, compositions, city, country, flora, fauna, sea, mountains, travel, reading, pinterest, facebook, as you can see but also the Jugendstil, The Modern, the 50s, 60s. In short: to look, to be curious, then I find everything I need!

Tell me about what you do?

What I do? Drink lots of coffee, some sport, not like other, but regular. Regularly meet friends, take short trips, work a lot in the garden, with the aim of creating a lush, colorful flower garden (and to maintain and maintain it), as a hobby potter (which in the end looks better than it sounds, I thing), Of course, draw a whole lot, draw, draw.

What’s the structure of a typical day like for you?

A typical day: do not get up too late (but not too early) as I said: Coffee drink, black, without milk and sugar. Usually a little tidying up, because it must look quite right around me when I work. Then work without artist attitudes at the desk. mostly until the late afternoon. Then I make a real evening of work. Time for family and friends or hobby and garden, that is important to me.

What are some of your favourite sources for information?

Source: mostly Google, little Wikipedia, and what I like analogously

How does social media influence your life?

Social media: I’m trying to pull myself out a little, especially out of fb, It robs me of too much time and meaning. But continue to use it as a professional platform. Otherwise I hardly use social media, rather analog!

Justine Otto

Where are you living?

I have two opposite living surroundings. One is in the outback of civilisation where nobody comes around close to the river Elbe. And on the other hand I live in Berlin and sometimes in Hamburg.

How old you are? (if you don’t mind answering)

i-m 42.

What inspires you?

Nearly everything can be a source of inspiration. For example music is one influence in my artwork. Some of my paintings have song titles .„Fourth Corner“ for example is a song titel from Trixie Whitley. For a while I enjoyed to visit abandonned places because the vibe of the just left and now forgotten has been a sparkling inspiration for me. I also collect old photographs and magazines as a source for my paintings.

Tell me about what you do?

I paint mainly , sometimes I make sculptures and collages. Art the moment I curate some exhibitions and do the graphical work for the cataloque for the next group exhibition i’ll be part of..

What’s the structure of a typical day like for you?

„A typical day“ looks like getting out oft the cosy bed and start everything with good coffee out of my ECM Cosmic coffee Machine. Than my lovely Labrador Minka wants to speed up and we go jogging in the landscape. Then I do the e-mail communication and coordinate the next exhibitions that will come. After a lot of green tea I finally start painting. I prefer to paint at night when I got the feeling to be complete on my own.

What are some of your favourite sources for information?

newspaper and radio,I love listening to radio programmes at night.

How does social media influence your life?

I have a fb site and I must admit that I found quite a few interesting artists on instagram. I think it`s a good source for discoveries. Sometimes I get fucked up with all this monitor staring and I stop it for a while.

Where are you living?

In the South-West of Berlin – not the really hip part of town. Yet.
How old you are? (if you don’t mind answering)

43

What inspires you?

Mainly literature and Music. For me the lyrics are very important when I listen to music. I am also a pod-cast junkie. But I have most of my best ideas, while running.

Tell me about what you do?

I am a painter. I create images that I hope will move people. Like trowing a roc into water and watching the ripples spread. Figures play a very important role: humans can’t help but react emphatically to images of people. That’s something I work with in my paintings.

What’s the structure of a typical day like for you?

I get up at 5:30, work out make breakfast and get the children ready for school. Then I go for a run with our dog. The rest of the morning I usually spend answering emails (or questionnaires ) and taking care of business stuff. I am a great believer in naps. I take a power nap of about 15 Minutes every day. After that I get started on my paintings. I work until 6 or 8 depending.

What are some of your favourite sources for information?

I read The New York Times and The New Yorker and the Süddeutsche Zeitung. But I also listen to NPR.

How does social media influence your life?

I started to use social media very reluctantly. Because I am self-employed, they are a necessity, like having a current website. I usually set myself a limited timeframe to spend posting onto or reading social media. As a source of information or to really foster contacts I feel they have very limited potential-

Interview Alberto Madrigal, Artist and Illustrator, Berlin

You can find a lot of pictures of my work on my webpage:

www.albemadrigal.com

Where are you living?

I come from Spain, live in Berlin

How old you are? (if you don’t mind answering)

I’m 33 years old.

What inspires you?

I get inspiration from the city, the people around me and cinema, novels and photography. I like to sit on a cafe and observe the people, draw them while I think about a story and how can I develop it.

Tell me about what you do?

I am a comic artist and illustrator. I have drawn three books, two of them as a writer as well.

What’s the structure of a typical day like for you?

I normally go to the studio at the morning around 10 am and start to work until 18:00 on the afternoon. I always have a book that I’m working on. I need at least two years to do one so in the meanwhile I do another jobs as illustrator.

What are some of your favourite sources for information?

The source of information is the people and of course the internet. As I draw the books I would search for photographs of the places where the story takes place. Without internet the process would be very slow.

How does media influence your life?

I use social media mainly for my work, to promote my self. It’s a good way to understand if people follow what you do and what they think about it.

Where are you living?

How old you are? (if you don’t mind answering)

34

What inspires you?

Films, comics, Tezuka, books, Borges, music, Magritte, other people’s work, dreams, travels,…

Tell me about what you do?

I make illustrations for magazines, newspapers, books, ad agencies, music labels…. I also make animations and sometimes I work in bigger teams for animation productions such as featured films or TV series.

What’s the structure of a typical day like for you?

I wake up at around 8, take a shower, have breakfast, seat on the computer and start with mails check, bureaucracy and a little procrastination. After a couple of hours I get productive and start to draw. In the afternoon, after lunch break I get super productive and draw until the evening…at the end I think or make a work plan for the day after. In the evening I hang out, make sport or meet friends,… or I keep working if the deadlines are tight!

What are some of your favourite sources for information?

Without doubt, the biggest, cheapest, easiest and fastest: the Internet. I also love to visit book and comic stores and ending buying something inspiring.

How does social media influence your life?

I don’t really like to be active at that social media thing, and I am very bad with it…so I use it mostly to communicate with friends and/or colleges and being passive looking what others do. Very rare I post something myself, but I try to push myself now and then to be active, because I think it is a good way to promote my work.
